[u3aavcuss] Webcam installation

Hello all
A friend has given me a webcam with a view to my using Skype. We have installed 
Skype OK but are having problems getting the computer to recognise the webcam. 
We have just spent 3 hours trying to get it sorted. Can get sound but no 
picture! Any suggestions?
