Good evening

It seems that KB972581 is a security patch for Office 2007 and I would guess it
also relates to earlier versions of Office otherwise the download would not
have been necessary. As you are now about to load Office 2007 you will know
doubt find that it will immediately go online and download no end of updates
(at least this was my experience). Once you have the new version up and running
you will find it quite an improvement but there are a few pitfalls. Not least
that Word Documents are saved with a new extension ie:  document .docx rather
than document .doc This is fine until you share your files with others and you
then need to remember to "downgrade" your file.

Bye Ron M :-)

Subject: [u3aavcuss] Microsoft Security Updates aka Patches

I have a Vista machine but am sure that my query will be relevant to XP
and perhaps Win 7 users.

Most of the periodic "mass Tuesday updates" are about downloads directed
at the operating system itself, e.g., Vista patches, Windows Defender,
Security Packs.  However, other Microsoft programs do sometimes feature.
Last Tuesday's batch, for example, contained patch KB972581 for Microsoft
Office 2007.

I am still using Office 2003 but have 2007 on CD which I am about to
install.  Will the patch already on my hard drive work OK or will I have
to download the patch again?  This is a specific example but there will be
others in future or members may likewise experience them.
