This is just a reminder of that Thandi Nkomo will speak on:

Women and Grassroots Organizing in Zimbabwe: Experiences of the
Organization of Rural Associations for Progress (ORAP)

Thandiwe Nkomo recently came to Canada as a political refugee from
Zimbabwe, where she was Executive Director of Organization of Rural
Associations for Progress (ORAP, a large and internationally respected
grassroots organization in Zimbabwe). ORAP, a membership organization
with over 1.3 million members, mobilizes rural Zimbabweans around
startegies for local self-reliance, in the face of macroeconomic
restructuring and political oppression.

Nkomo was targeted by the government for her leadership role in ORAP's
civic education programs (perceived as anti-Mugabe). She is known for
her work mobilizing especially women and promoting self-reliance through
culturally relevant self-help activities. She's been with ORAP, and
heavily involved in Zimbabwean development, for 20 years and is
well-known throughout the international grassroots women and development
