Dear all,
During last weeks Lathe demo I took some notes on what we are short of
and what needs doing to the machine as suggested by the expert.
As you know the belt snapped during the demo.
Ive got a replacement ready to fit so we can try it out again
tomorrow.
Although extended use would not be a good idea until we have serviced
the machine due to the state of the pulleys. See below.
Ill try and get down before 11.00 am when I normally get there and fit
it.
Ive done a bit of research and it looks as though parts and accessories
are readily available as a number of other machine manufacturers have
copied it over the years. Ive left a printed manual for the Axminster
version in the office.
The Axminster AWVSL1000 is a copy with the same gearbox and main shaft
threads.
The machine we have is the Delta 46-255 wood lathe.
Headstock spindle thread is 1"x8 tpi.
Tail stock is MT2. Morse Taper 2.
I found a few more accessories on the shelf on Thursday that will make
the machine easier to use.
Specifically the parts needed with the hollow centres for the roughing
out drive centre that goes in the chuck.
There are several sizes for different work piece diameters.
If anyone's interested I can go over my notes and we can make a plan to
get the machine up to full working order.
Here are few highlights:
1, Broken belt, replacement to be fitted.
2, Variable pulley on main shaft damaged. Both the pulley surfaces and
part of the casting has broken away.
3, Variable gearbox needs dismantling cleaning and re greasing as it
sticks This may be partly due to the state of the pulley.
4, All sliding mating surfaces of to be rubbed down to make smooth.
5, Dismantle and clean tail stock and Morse fittings.
6, We will need to organise and store the common accessories, chuck
parts and tools close to the machine so they are easy to find and use.
7, Possibly mount on locking wheeled base?
