I haven't had too many conversations with people yet about Notre Dame. It
was definitely a huge shock to all of us. But several things have stood out
to me immediately:
- A billion euros were raised in less than 48 hours. A BILLION. But the
souls of each of my neighbors and friends here are worth infinitely more.
- Our church plant needs 600,000€ in three years to buy our building. That
sounds so impossible to us. But obviously, money is not the issue - there
is a lot of money out there! We know that it all ultimately belongs to the
Father. If a church that has never preached the Gospel can raise a billion
so quickly, surely a church that preaches it faithfully each day can find
the necessary resources.
I am still working on my Tamar lesson - the study is next week. Just
yesterday, a lady with whom I was doing a Bible study shared me with about
having been sexually abused in the past (the same girl I mentioned on
Facebook who is getting pressure to go to a pentecostal church for healing
from her cancer). She's currently living with a man. She made a profession
of faith a few months ago. I haven't addressed the issue specifically yet.
But if she's saved, the Spirit of God is going to do His penetrating work
in His time.

Yes, there is so much good teaching from women these days; I especially
like the Gospel Coalition speakers and workshop leaders at their women's
conferences. I think I told you that I got to meet Kathleen Nielson last
year and hear her speak in France, and I was just invited to attend another
women's conference in Switzerland next fall where she will be speaking on
Nehemiah. So it will be great to interact with her again. She gave us very
practical instruction on how to approach different genres in the Bible,
which I have used multiple times since then and have passed on to our SS
teachers and our ladies. Simple stuff, but yet very helpful in knowing how
to dig into Scripture. I'm supposed to teach on Tamar (Judah's
daughter-in-law) to our ladies in two weeks, and I was not too excited
about it. It's such a sad story. But as I have dug into it, it has proven
very rewarding. God can take the terrible messes of our lives, the
tangled-up circumstances in which we are sometimes victims, sometimes the
ones sinning against others - and He can still accomplish all of His plans
for us. There is a lot of hope here for our ladies. I'm sure some have been
abused and I know several have had children out of wedlock - and for some,
probably both. But God is so merciful and sovereign. I'd appreciate your
prayers as I prepare for the study!
And I'm praying for Pam as you slug through these last very exhausting
weeks, and Bonnie as you prepare to move! I'm especially concerned that
you'll find a good church there!!

Praise the LORD!!!! He has created us to be a body to encourage each
other to grow. I am thankful for you all and I know that when I get to my

Here's a link to her teaching out of 1 Samuel. I feel like they are upping
the bar on women/people in general knowing the Word and doing what the
Word
actually says not just what they "think" it says to them right now.
I was just told this morning by the leader of our women's ministry
that those who teach studies are going to use Jen Wilkins book and the
book
of Phillippians this summer together in a study. She wants to see if we
can
figure out how to use Jen's Bible study techniques to go through books of
the Bible by ourselves. So we would be equipping women to study the Word
without the guide of someone else's study. I'm excited! :) She's an
incredible lady who went to UCLA and ended up in John MacArthur's church
out there. She has a group of college friends like Trailer 5 all spread
around the world. I told her about this group, and she was excited.

like Trailer 5ers. Many of them listing off theology degrees, master's of
theology, and even MDivs so that they can be equipped to teach the ladies
in their community or become certified counselors. It's so neat to see so
many people coming together and begin to share ideas and have a passion
for
discipleship and leadership in their church in regards to women.
I know this doesn't apply to most of you, but I was encouraged to see
so many women who pursued things we wanted 20 years ago, and they were
able
to receive that type of training. I know that ladies like Beneth Jones
who
spoke to us only did because of who she was married to. But, it's sad to
think of some poor theology being passed around due to lack of equipping,
and we were eager for something deeper, and many of those women leaders
weren't able to offer that.
Just thinking through some things, and I'm in awe and excited to see
how God uses this.
