Hey, Liz, I noticed a while back that you were doing a detox/dietary change.
How is that working? Is it making you feel good?
I read a book recently on perimenapause. I laughed because the cure to many of
side effects was to eat healthy and exercise. :) Easy to remember, not always
easy to do!

So I emailed Michael Lackie, the regional director for UMUC DownRange,
yesterday before I left work at 7pm (that is 12 noon his time). I said that I
would like to move forward with the Djibouti position if it is still available.
He sent a reply within 10 minutes that "yes, it was and this is going to be
great." At midnight, my time (which I'm thinking is probably 8 or 9am in
Europe), I received an email from UMUC Europe recruitment HR saying that my
application is at the next step. "Please be sure that your direct supervisor
knows that we will be asking for a reference so that he can complete it in a
timely manner." So....things are moving.

Sorry, I have been telling so many people and on different platforms that I
forget what I said and to whom!Update....I was not offered the position in
Bahrain. A week later, we received an email advertising for a position in
Djibouti. Both are in what we can "DownRange." I saw it and my first thought
was "that is not where I want to be" (just like I did to Bahrain). But then I
did some research and did not find any churches in the area. Plus, I found out
that the base has a curfew and required groups if you want to go off base.
(totally prepared for this by being at NBBC!) :D So, I thought that it was
nice but not for me as I want a church to go to.The next few days, God kept
whispering to me "Will I not provide for you? Do you not trust me?" I trust
Him and I believe that He will provide but my actions were not lining up with
those beliefs. Then, Thursday of that week, I had a bit of a stressful day
with my co-worker and remembered that the Djibouti flyer said that they needed
someone who could work well by himself....and I thought that that position was
sounding pretty good! So on Friday, I submitted an application.The following
Wednesday, the same guy who interviewed me for Bahrain emailed me and said that
we needed to interview about Djibouti. (This was very unusual! I applied for
Bahrain on 1 Dec and did not receive any communication or request for an
interview until 7 Jan). So we interviewed on Monday 4 Feb, and the first thing
he said was that this was not Bahrain! He did not know how much I do know
about the area having taught geography...He wanted to make sure that I was
going into this with my eyes open and informed.Then I asked questions....I
learned from my Bahrain interview. I asked how many other people have applied
for Djibouti. He said that he had 3 other applications in his system but that
he has not even opened them. If I said yes, he would not open them but just
send a letter of "thanks for applying." I also told him that I was invested in
the graduating class this year and wanted to be here on Guam for the
commencement. He asked when that was (11 May) and then asked if 1 June would
work for me to start in the new position. He would like to know my answer by
the end of this week (I told him that I work better with a deadline).As of
right now, I am leaning towards "yes." I am still talking with people and
seeking godly counsel but no one has had major red flags. Of course there is
the general concern about safety but if I'm where God has me, I'm safe or
safely at home with Him! (For me to live is Christ, to die is gain)So, if you
think of it, pray for me to be sensitive to the whispers of the Holy Spirit and
to place my moments of fear and uncertainty at God's feet.

Faith is still small. I think around 300. The president is a Northland grad,
before our time. The Herrons joined the staff 3 months ago and Mr B. runs the
kitchen. It was strange to see them there. Did O was one of the speakers and we
got to spend quite a bit of time with them.
I can't go into to much detail. Daniel and Melinda were at the conference and
introduced us to a family that goes to their church. The husband is on the
board of Faith. He has presented us\church with something. Only 4 other people
in the church know about it right now and will stay like that for around 6
months. Please pray for wisdom, patience, and when presented the church won't
be nervous (small communitys don't like unknows).

afloat for a very long time. I didn't go there as a student because my Dad had
been on the board for a while, and he knew about all the inner problems. He

Carrie, I'll be praying with you about that burden of yours, which seems really
important. I think my church here does a good job in discipleship; we try to
meet one-on-one with any new ladies who come, in order to make sure they know
and understand the Gospel, and in order to teach them the basics of personal
Bible study. For the girls who grow up in the church, we encourage the moms to
do that kind of study with their daughters when they get to be teens/young
adults and show an interest in baptism.
For the past two years we've been having monthly ladies' Bible studies for all
the women, in which we try to teach them how to study a genre of the Bible.
Last year it was one of Paul's letters; this year it's biblical narrative
(women of the Bible). The one aspect that I think we could do better is being
intentional about training the more mature women to be teachers. We aren't
there yet. But hopefully that will come. I try to make comments from time to

like... okay, that was an okay sermon but it didn't really feel like the
piercing Sword of the Word of God in our souls... I will pray with you for
your church and for the church in general... the church here in our area
(perhaps in the whole US) just doesn't seem well... (I will include myself in
that). It seems sick... as if it is sitting on the couch watching meaningless
TV and in danger of a heart attack... maybe just filled with nominal
believers.

Would you pray with me? I am very burdened that this type of Bible teaching
needs to be happening in our church. That none of our kids should have to go to
Bible college to learn how to study the Bible for themselves. I'm also
concerned that the ladies in our church take a more active role in disciplining
our teen girls . . .not sure where all this is leading, but it's been building
inside me for a while. I have a meeting Sat. morning with the leader of our
women's ministries. Lots going on in my head.
Have you seen this kind of discipleship done well? What did it look like?

speaker in a long time where you walked away knowing your Bible better. Hope
Taylor did 3 of them. Two were a two part. She teaches at the school and does a
class on how to teach \study for a bible study. You all would of been cheering
in her workshop on Bible study. It was so good to hear that this is what she is
teaching. She also did a workshop from Lamentations 3:18-27. It was such an
encouragement, almost didn't go. Verse 23 really hit. His mercies are new every
morning. We don't have to save them up or wonder if there will be enough
because he is faithful. If you are interested they will be putting them up on
their web site. The Bible Study one may be a little confusing without the
notes.
