WOO HOO! We got the grant!
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this, it was a great team effort, and
whilst I might have put it together I couldn’t have done it without everyone
who helped in every little or big way.
Cheers,
Renee

Dear Leon Bell and Renee Wierzbicki
Thank you for applying for a Playground to Plate grant for Thornbury Primary
School. I’m pleased to advise that your application has been successful,
congratulations!
The grant is to be used to establish or enhance your school’s infrastructure
for delivering a kitchen garden program, as outlined in your application.
Funds are to be fully expended and a report submitted by 5:00pm, Monday, 17
September 2018. The template for this report is attached. In the coming
week, the grant amount of $5,000 (GST exclusive) will be transferred to the
school’s bank account nominated in your application. Please find attached
the recipient created tax invoice confirming the transfer – no action
required for the invoice.
If you’re not already a member of the Kitchen Garden Classroom, the first
year of membership will be gifted to your school along with the grant. An
email detailing how to set up your membership will follow. Kitchen Garden
Classroom membership includes access to the Shared Table, an online
community space with hundreds of downloadable resources; discounted
professional development and access to our phone and email Support Line.
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation will support you to make
the most of the grant so your kitchen garden program will be sustainable in
the long term – enabling your students to form positive food habits for
life.
In addition to the support available from SAKGF, the Healthy Schools
Achievement Program and Healthy Eating Advisory Service are available to
support schools to create and embed healthy eating environments for all
students, staff and families.
The Healthy Schools Achievement Program provides an evidence-informed
framework, best-practice benchmarks and resources to guide a whole-school
approach to health, and they can help you receive Victorian Government
recognition as a Healthy School. One of the health priority areas the
Achievement Program focuses on is Healthy Eating and Oral Health. They can
help you develop or refine a whole-school approach through policy
development, school- community engagement, and best-practice resources. Find
out more at www.achievementprogram.health.vic.gov.au. The Achievement
Program is delivered by Cancer Council Victoria, supported by the Victorian
Government.
For expert advice on promoting healthy eating in your school, contact the
Healthy Eating Advisory Service (HEAS). HEAS offers free information,
training, menu assessments and ongoing assistance to provide healthier food
and drink options. Get started at http://heas.health.vic.gov.au/. HEAS is ;
delivered by Nutrition Australia Vic Division, supported by the Victorian

We look forward to helping your school grow your kitchen garden program
through this infrastructure boost.
