I went to the Smoky Mountain Institute at Tremont last week. I set up 2 sheets the first night and 3 the second. There is a small mountain river running nearby, so I saw hundreds of mayflies, caddisflies, stoneflies and even a HUGE Dobsonfly. Not too many moths the first night, but the Spiny Oak moth was a first for me. The second night we set up the third light by the dining hall and had lots of moths there. I presented my "Moth-er's Night Out" program to the group, but after a hot day of hiking, many of them fell asleep before they could see the moths! I took photos of ~ 40 species of moths, I've been able to ID about 28 for Blount Co. I tried to send these through my Gmail account, but Larry said it got kicked back. I need to find out how to get on FreeList on that account. Here are the moths I was able to ID: Blount Co., TN Tremont 0373 – Acrolophus popeanella – Clemens' Grass Tubeworm Moth 7-12-11 1034 – Inga sparsiciliella – Black-marked Inga Moth 7-12-11 3720 – Cenopis reticulatana – Reticulated Fruitworm Moth 7-12-11 4653 – Tortricidia pallida – Red-crossed Button Slug Moth 7-12-11 4665 – Lithacodes fasciola – Yellow-shouldered Slug Moth 7-12-11 4675 – Isochaetes beutenmuelleri 7-12-11 4697-Euchea_delphinii-SpinyOak-slug Moth 7-12-11 5362 – Crambus agitatellus – Double-banded Grass-veneer Moth 7-12-11 5466 – Vaxi critica – Straight-lined Argyria Moth 7-12-11 5606 – Pococera asperatella – Maple Webworm Moth 7-12-11 6620 E – Melanolophia canadaria – Canadian Melanolophia Moth 7-12-11 6941 B – Eusarca confusaria – Confused Eusarca Moth 7-12-11 6966 E – Eutrapela clemataria – Curve-toothed Geometer Moth 7-13-11 6987 E – Antepione thisoaria – Variable Antepione Moth 7-12-11 7034 E – Nemoria saturiba 7-12-11 7161 E – Scopula ordinata 7-12-11 7292 E – Rheumaptera prunivorata – Ferguson 's Scallop Shell Moth 7-11-11 7316 E – Perizoma basaliata – Square-patched Carpet Moth 7-12-11 9285 – Polygrammate hebraeicum Hebrew 7-11-11 7716 – Anisota stigma – Spiny Oakworm Moth 7-11-11 7746 – Automeris io – Io Moth 7-12-11 8089 – Hypoprepia miniata – Scarlet-winged Lichen Moth 7-11-11 8134 – Spilosoma congrua – Agreeable Tiger Moth 7-12-11 8169 – Apantesis phalerata – Harnessed Tiger Moth 7-12-11 8203 – Halysidota tessellaris – Banded Tussock Moth 7-12-11 8514 – Scolecocampa liburna – Deadwood Borer Moth 7-12-11 9199 – Acronicta rubricoma – Ruddy Dagger Moth 7-11-11 5159 – Desmia funeralis – Grape Leaffolder Moth 7-11-11 Here are some of the latest I have for Anderson Co.: 4744 – Chrysendeton medicinalis – Bold Medicine Moth 7-8-11 0630 – Caloptilia rhoifoliella Sumac Leafblotch Miner Moth 7-8-11 4700 - Acharia stimulea Saddleback Caterpillar Moth 7-9-11 0372 – Acrolophus plumifrontella – Eastern Grass Tubeworm Moth_7-11-11 4675 – Isochaetes beutenmuelleri – Spun Glass Slug Moth_7-13-11 4700 – Acharia stimulea – Saddleback Caterpillar Moth_7-11-11 7905 – Datana major – Major Datana Moth_7-13-11 8364 – Phalaenostola larentioides – Black-banded Owlet Moth_7-11-11 2509.97 – Schreckensteinia spp. – Unidentified Schreckensteinia Moths_7-13-11 (Someone had one of these little gray moths that hold their back legs up recently) Kris Light Oak Ridge, TN Anderson Co.
