Hello everyone,
We will conduct our last summer count (remember there are still two fall counts
to go) in two weeks on Saturday July 29 at Lower Hatchie. We will meet at
Woodard's Store in the Three Point community near the intersection of Hwy. 87
and Lightfoot Luckett Rd. This is approximately 6 miles west of Henning on Hwy
87. We will start counting at 9:30 near the store, then split into two groups;
one taking sites north of Hwy 87, the other those areas south. This has
traditionally been one of the best counts each year in Tennessee for total
number of individuals, with more than 2800 seen last year. Of course this
summer has seen depressed numbers, but we should still get a decent showing.
Highlight species typically found on this count are all the sulphurs, including
Southern Dogface and Dainty Sulphur; occasional Bronze Coppers, a stray
Funereal Duskywing, and big numbers of Hackberry Emperors and American Snouts.
Bring your own lunch to eat in the field, plenty of water, sunscreen and bug
spray. Remember, this is two Saturdays from now. Let me know if you are
