Clifton Bend - April 8
We will meet at the parking lot of Carroll Cabin Barrens State Natural Area at
9:30 AM (see https://tn.gov/environment/article/na-na-carroll-cabin-barrens for ;
more info and directions). The natural area is located between Parsons and
Savannah, near the town of Clifton along the Tennessee River. We will enjoy
lunch at Meo Mio's, a Cajun restaurant located near the natural area. This
count highlights many spring butterflies associated with this barrens habitat
including Juniper Hairstreak, Eastern Pine Elfin, Henry's Elfin, Falcate
Orangetip, Goatweed Leafwing, Sleepy Duskywing, Dusted Skipper, Cobweb Skipper,
Pepper and Salt Skipper, and Yucca Giant-Skipper.
The weather looks like it is going to be nice and sunny with highs in the
mid-60s, so a little cool, but with the sun, things should be flying once it
warms up just a bit. Please let me know if you plan to participate, since this
is a seasonal count, we are required to have 4 observers. And as always, there
is a $3.00 fee that goes to NABA.
