The number of Western Grebes at Lake Tansi, Cumberland County, Saturday
(December 12) was 2, not 4, as I first reported that day; these two
grebes provided fine looks (from as close as 30 m with various 'scopes)
at their yellow-green bills, as well as their red eyes completely
surrounded by dark feathers extending down from the dark crown. Several
who saw them--including DJ Stanley, Ed LeGrand, and Winston
Walden--obtained photos of these grebes, and these photos have been
shared with various folks who collect data about rare birds in TN.
Others who saw them Saturday included the Mast family members, Nan
Beesley, as well as Barb and me.

Note: The Wood Thrush at my home on City Lake in Putnam County during
late Nov. and Dec. 1 somehow survived the bitter cold last week; Barb
saw it Dec. 12, and I obtained some identifiable photos Dec. 13, so
there is hope that it might actually be found on the Cookeville CBC
(Dec. 19).

Also Note: a Selasphorus sp. turned up in Cookeville Dec. 12; hoping
Mark Armstrong can get by to band it.
