Snow Bunting Peninsula
Old Hickory Lake
Davidson Co., TN
2017 Sep. 12,13

Yesterday morning 8 birders spent several hours at Snow Bunting
Peninsula on Old Hickory Lake searching for sea birds and shore
birds. It was a bit disappointing as nothing extremely rare showed
up. We did get good looks, however, at an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULL and were buzzed by an early MERLIN.

A return to the peninsula this Wednesday morning produced mixed
results as well. A pair of SEMIPALMATED PLOVERs greeted Mike Smith
and me, and before he left for work we also had single LEAST
and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERs come in together as well. A flyover
group of 6 LESSER YELLOWLEGS was also found. After he left I
saw two adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, one of whom at one point
chased the other for a fish. The misting rain finally sent me on
my way.
