One of the last hoorahs of winter, we finally hit the Purple Finch jackpot with 4 this morning (3 males, 1 female/imm). The winter birds are still hanging on with few signs of spring migrants here yet. The baby Great Horned Owl is branching and is taking on brown feathers. Still hearing the Barred Owls but not the last couple of cold nights. I'm regularly seeing a pair of Sharp-shinned Hawks hunting in our area and suspect there may be a nest around somewhere. Redbud winter has put a complete stop to mothing at the house.
