About 2 weeks ago I had a red breasted nuthatch in my pine tree (west Knox County). A first for the yard and for me. Heard it before I saw it and then only managed to glimpse parts of it at a time. This afternoon (Saturday, December 4) it was back. This time it was in the cherry tree right beside the deck and I managed to see the whole bird at once up close. Later I heard it in my neighbor's pine tree across the street. Last Saturday I was at Louisville ___________ Park (Blount County), saw the brown headed nuthatches in the stand of pines at the end of the paved road and was sure I heard a red breasted nuthatch but could never locate it.
