This winter I have been conducting another survey for Northern Saw-whet Owls in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Besides two NSWOs I reported earlier, I should also mention two more encounters, one in McCreary Co., KY, on 12 Feb 02 and the other in Scott Co., TN, on 1 Mar 02. The total of four NSWOs derives from coverage of 80 stops (as compared to 10 NSWOs encountered while surveying the same 100 stops in 2000). Thanks to Roseanna Denton for coverage of 10 stops in KY. Thanks also to Dan Combs and Nell Moore for help in running surveys on one or more evenings. I plan to cover 20 more stops as soon as weather allows.
