River Plantation Subdivision Davidson Co. Bellevue, Tennessee 2009 Jul. 29 7 pm Living in the River Plantation subdivision on the southwest side of Nashville next to the Harpeth River, I was out last night for my evening exercise in the oppressive humidity. As I approached the railroad tracks and high tension power lines that cut through the middle of the subdivision, I began to see PURPLE MARTINs streaming across the sky. Reaching the huge power lines I found hundreds of the birds sitting together. I stayed to watch for perhaps 10 minutes and attempted a count, which reached 434 before I left to resume my interupted exercise. Had I stayed longer I suspect that the flock of birds would have exceeded 500.
