I just caught a long but poor look at a raptor heading directly away from me; I picked it up as it flew over our building (Roundabout Plaza in Nashville) heading roughly north. It never turned around, and identifying raptors from behind is not easy, but my first impression was Peregrine based on the size, body shape, wing profie, and flight style (lighting was too poor to make out any plumage details). Nothing I saw as I watched it fly away gave me any reason to change my mind. So, not a certaintly, but highly probable in my mind. I think it's been over a month since I saw that big immature female; maybe this is her still hanging around. On a related note, a number of birds have been colliding with our building lately, and are collectingly in an alley that I'm starting to call death row. Yesterday a sapsucker and an unknown small passerine (I didn't see it but it was described to me as "wren like"). Today I found a Northern Flicker (sadly, it was not salvageable as a specimen due to vehicle traffic). I'm going to make daily morning sweeps during migration to see what else is hitting the building. -- Chris Sloan chris.sloan@xxxxxxxxxxx Nashville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
