Not quite as active in the yard before work this morning (30 April, west Knox Co), but still good. The BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was heard again but "Myrtle" and Hooded were the only other warblers. The BALTIMORE ORIOLE was back and I also had a first-of-season-for-the yardlist 1st-year male ORCHARD ORIOLE (by that I mean he is almost one year old -- depends on your choice of life-cycle terminology if that's 1st-year or 2nd-year). That's only the 2nd record of Orchard Oriole for the yard with the first hung around for a couple days in 2006. One of the more interesting birds this morning was a rather late HERMIT THRUSH. I had good looks at close distance at the reddish tail (which was being pumped) as well as breast spotting and head and face pattern to rule out Veery and other thrushes. This is a new late date for Hermit Thrush in the yard by 10 days and will make a good count-week bird for Saturday's Knox County Spring Count (shameless plug).
