450,000 American die every year of cancer; another half million from heart disease. Funds used to prosecute spishers might be a lot better spent on research that reduced these major causes of mortality in America. Let's all remember that the ABA has a code of ethics that puts the welfare of birds ahead of personal gratification like seeing a life bird; between that code and the MBTA of 1918, we probably have all the public resources directed at the spisher problem that it deserves. The real inhibitor of over-spishing/overtaping is one's personal sense of the welfare for the bird resource; I do not find that there is as much of this sense of welfare in the birding community as I would like to see. As in most of the affairs of life, self-gratification rules all, including how birders treat birds. Stephen J. So it doesn't matter if I poison one? Again, I think these sorts of comparisons are distractions from the issues, not clarifications of it. We are talking about our own personal individual actions, and their responsibility and legality.
