From Rick Knight's book "The Birds of Northeast Tennessee"  1994:

NORTHERN GOSHAWK Accipiter gentilis

  Transient/winter visitor (rare F, W, and SP). At least 29
records, most in mountains. One summer record: 1 Jun 1991 (1)
Roan Mountain (Alsop). One overwintering record: 4 Oct 1975-
24 Apr 1976 (1) Roan Creek (Herndon et al.).
