This is probably the first spring record for the Black-necked Stilt in East Tennessee and, should be a new species for the "Checklist of Waterbirds, Ranking Bottoms, Coke County, Tennessee." Everyone who has an interest in Rankin Bottom pen that one in on your checklist ! Did anyone try to photograph the Rankin Bottom birds ? And in regards to Dean Edwards' comments about birds away from the Mississippi River (I have one more): (1) Carol Williams posted on TN-Birds, Sat, 8 May 2004, that Judy Fuson found a pair of Black-necked Stilts working a pond on Student's Home Road in DeKalb County, Smithville (east of Nashville). THIS IS THE FIRST SPRING RECORD FOR MIDDLE TENNESSEE ? Carol has photos of these birds. (2) Two at Rankin Bottom, Cocke County, 8 May 2004 by Tracey Muise, Charlie Muise, Leslie Gibbens, Michael Sledjeski and Linda Wright. FIRST SPRING RECORD FOR EAST TENNESSEE. (3) A bird reported by Linda Fowler and photographed by Chuck Nicholson at Eagle Bend Fish Hatchery in Anderson Co., TN on 1 Aug 1985. (4) One adult male at Cumberland Steam Plant, Stewart County, 2-4 Nov 1985 by John Robinson. I hope I got all that keyed in correctly. Let's go birding and see some Black-necked Stilts, Wallace Coffey Bristol, TN ----- Original Message ----- From: "K Dean EDWARDS" <kde@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Charlie" <cmmbirds@xxxxxxxxx> Cc: "TN-Bird" <TN-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, May 10, 2004 11:08 PM Subject: [TN-Bird] Rankin Stilts!!!!
