Continuing my theme of a slow spring migration with lots of late arrivals in the backyard (west Knox Co), I had a few birds passing through today (Fri, 15 May) including a couple of LONG-overdue first-of-season (FOS) birds and a couple late records. Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 1 predicting rain (ie, calling) EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, 1, FOS, 22 days past my early arrival date Red-eyed Vireo, 5+, the (presumedly) resident male has been on territory for a few weeks now singing and hiding in the treetops, the passerbys were all very visible but silent, I first thought he would be upset at the intrusion on his territory but maybe this was a wave of females Swainson's Thrush, 1 Black-throated Green Warbler, 1, ties previous late date in the yard Bay-breasted Warbler, 1, new late (spring) date Blackpoll Warbler, 2 SUMMER TANAGER, 1, FOS, 30(!) days past my early arrival date Dean Edwards Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
