Friends, Speaking of BBS routes... Tracey and I will be moving to Georgia at the end of this summer. Among my commitments here are 4 BBS routes. I've conducted 2 of them for 5 years and 2 of them for 3. The former 2 are "irregular" routes and are entirely within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The other 2 are close by. One starts in Walland (Blount County) and goes into Sevier county. The other starts in a rural area of south Knox County and ends just south of Maryville in Blount County. I hate to leave these routes because they are all good, they are all enjoyable, and as Steve said, it is best that one person conduct a route for a long period of time. However I'll be 5.5 hours drive away, so I simply can't do it after this year. I would very much like for anyone interested in adopting a route to come along with me as I conduct them. I plan to do them all in the next 2 weeks. The 2 in the park must be conducted on a weekday, the other 2 must be conducted on a weekend. Please contact me ASAP if you are interested. My number is on the KTOS website, on the latest newsletter. If you are interested in ANY BBS route, the BBS website has lots of information, including the birds seen there each year - it is a good idea to check out that list and "freshen up" on the species there before doing the route. It is also a very good idea to "scout" each route each year prior to conducting it, so you know where roads have changed, where favorite pullouts may no longer be available, where construction is, etc. Charlie ******************************************************************* Charlie Muise, Naturalist near Great Smoky Mountains National Park "To the dull mind all nature is leaden.
