Hickory - Priest CBC Jan. 1, 2012 Nashville TN Eighteen people were out in 5 parties, on a very windy but still warmer than usual New Years Day. Highlights include: one likely TUNDRA SWAN seen early and briefly by Scott Somershoe at Anderson Rd Rec Area (some so-so photos), Marsh Wren at Shelby Bottoms, Gray Catbird and Orange-crowned Warbler on the Old Hickory section, and 3 Merlins - probably our high count for this CBC. Scott reported usual high numbers of Ring-billed Gulls roosting on Percy Priest Lake at twilight, lower than usual Com. Loons, with higher than previous duck diversity. Chris Sloan reported higher than previous numbers of Com. Loons roosting on Old Hickory Lake. One notable miss was Herring Gull. Our preliminary total is 90 species tallied. Richard Connors Nashvile
