I have a squirrel proof feeder in the back, the kind that uses the weight to
close access to feed. (not overly attractive, but it sure is effective). I
never see the squirrels on it, but often on the ground below. This morning I
observed two squirrels happily munching away when one of them finally noticed
the chipmunk I had been watching for several minutes-I guess either they were
too busy enjoying their meal or didn't notice the chipmunk in the higher weeds.
I was surprised when one of the squirrels chased the chipmunk away-chased it
probably 25 feet, until it was outside the fenced area. I'd never seen that
kind of aggressive behavior before-usually they all tolerate each other. Made
for rather amusing watching with my morning coffee.
