There will be a field trip this coming Saturday at the Kingston Steam Plant in
Roane County. It is run by the Chattanooga Chapter of TOS. They wish to invite
Knoxville Chapter birders - and of course ANYONE else interested - to join
them.
Here is the announcement from their website (accessible via tnbirds.org -
click on "local chapters" and then "Chattanooga" and then "Field Trips"

SAT., AUG. 25: KINGSTON STEAM PLANT
SHOREBIRDS AND EARLY MIGRANTS
MEET: 4:00PM AT THE BI-LO PARKING LOT ON
HWY. 58 , LEADER: CLYDE BLUM
The ash fields and settling ponds at Kingston steam plant
are like a magnet for migrant shorebirds. Interesting
finds have also included various species of gulls, terns,
egrets and herons. (We even found a Barn Owl one year!)
This area can be quite hot and dry. Be sure to wear
comfortable shoes and bring water, sunscreen, hat and
a scope. If you don't have a scope, don't worry and don't
let that stop you. Birders will be happy to share scope
views! Knoxville TOS may join us there.

The Chattanooga group should arrive soon after 5:00. If you want to join them,
try to be there by 5:15. I plan to be there a couple hours earlier (but not
for birding) and I'll try to be in the parking area (the one by the ball
fields) around 5:00.
