Most of you have heard of eBird--a free data storage program for bird
records--and a good many of you are availing yourself if its services,
at least to judge from the increase in the number of checklist
submissions that has occurred since 2003. Here are the figures for
number of checklists submitted from TN and for number of species
represented by the checklists over the past five years:

2003--1056 checklists representing 234 species
2004--1205 checklists representing 248 species
2005--1433 checklists representing 241 species
2006--2717 checklists representing 271 species
2007--2625 checklists representing 261 species (so far)

Recently, most of the data for TN from the International Shorebird
Surveys have been added to the eBird database, going back to the 1970s.
In the future, intregration of bird data from many other sources into
the eBird database is expected to occur, making eBird the most complete
collection of bird data for North America ever assembled and a powerful
tool for many purposes relating to bird distribution, bird abundance,
and bird conservation.

If you have an eBird account and have been submitting checklists, many
thanks for your participation, which I hope continues well into the
future.

If you have not yet tried eBird, I hope you will give it a try soon.
Check out the link below, open an account, see how well eBird organizes
your bird data, and rest easy knowing that your bird data are
permanently archived now so no one else ever has to do it for you in the
future.
