I birded TVA's Kingston Steam (Fossil) Plant in Roane County, TN today (July 27, 2006) from 5:20 pm to 7:30 pm. Eleven species of shorebird were observed. The following is a list of birds heard and/or seen: 1. Great Egret- 2 2. Snowy Egret- 2 3. Great Blue Heron- 1 4. Little Blue Heron- 1 immature 5. Wood Duck- 6 6. Mallard- at least 21 7. Canada Goose- at least 50 8. Osprey- 2 9. Turkey Vulture- 3 10. American Coot- 1 11. Killdeer- at least 53 (probably many more) 12. Semipalmated Plover- 2 13. Long-billed Dowitcher- 5 14. Sanderling- 2 15. Least Sandpiper- 19 16. Pectoral Sandpiper- 87 17. Semipalmated Sandpiper- 9 18. Solitary Sandpiper- 1 19. Spotted Sandpiper- 1 20. Western Sandpiper- 2 (identified primarily by the long slightly drooping bill) 21. Lesser Yellowlegs- 5 22. Mourning Dove- at least 15 23. Eastern Kingbird- 2 24. Eastern Bluebird- 2 25. Northern Mockingbird- 1 26. Common Yellowthroat- 3 27. Indigo Bunting- 2 28. Northern Cardinal- 1 29. Blue Grosbeak- 2 30. Song Sparrow- 8 31. Eastern Towhee-1 32. Red-winged Blackbird- at least 68 33. Eastern Meadowlark- 2 34.
