Are you sure this isn’t a hybrid Canada goose?

TN birders,
Thought this would be of interest, as it would probably represent an ABA bird
for many.

Subject: [birdky] So here's the deal on this Pink-footed Goose . . .
Thanks to Lori Ault for sending out word on the Pink-footed Goose that she
found at Lake Shelby, Shelby County, yesterday afternoon. Another VERY exciting
state first for us!!
First of all, the ID seems 100% solid. Everything about it looks perfect.
Secondly, what about provenance (origin)? . . . I asked Marshall Iliff about
potential for this bird to actually be a naturally occurring vagrant and he
replied
"extremely high...they have increased like 1000-fold since 2000...there were
fewer than 10 records in all of North America before 2000...now there are 10-15
individuals per year. Canada Geese move from New England to Kentucky, so could
easily include a PFGO. Also, we don't think they are prevalent in captivity at
all, so unless the situation is highly suspect (out of season, odd behavior,
bands) I would not hesitate to accept."
LOCATIONS:
Lori found it at Lake Shelby late yesterday with Canada Geese and it was there
very early this morning, so that is the current likely roosting location.
Everyone has seen the weather predictions, though, so this smaller lake may
easily freeze sometime during the next few nights so this could change.
Most recently (1000 am) it was feeding with 50+ Canada Geese in a cornfield on
the south side of the Shelbyville bypass on a slope above Clear Creek (which
feeds Lake Shelby). This is about a mile or so from the lake.
Theoretically, it should return to Lake Shelby at some point this afternoon.
