This morning, 9/25/09, in my west Knox County yard. I haven't been doing much
feeder/yard birdwatching lately but this morning I slept late and spent over an
hour doing just that... mostly from my back deck starting at 9 a.m. The first
half hour was notably quiet and I was about to give up and go in when things
got interesting. First I found the most exciting bird of the morning, a
SWAINSON'S THRUSH, new yard bird #63. Next were 2 Magnolia Warblers and a
Redstart foraging mostly in the wild cherry tree right next to the deck. One
ruby-throated Hummingbird was patronizing the hummingbird feeder (I don't get
many hummingbirds, usually just one at a time). Maybe not a migrant but
unusual for the yard was a Gray Catbird... never could see it but it meowed
several times. Almost forgot to mention the empid in the cherry tree. unusual
for the yard. Could't see much detail but it's head looked flat; it had wing
bars and seemed to be on the smallish side. Of course, it was silent.
