I had 28 species at Yuchi Refuge in Rhea County this morning. The highlight for
me was a red-headed woodpecker, since I hadn't seen one in many years. Other
notable birds were a pileated woodpecker, a prairie warbler, a common
yellowthroat warbler, several yellow-breasted chats, ospreys, and orchard
orioles. Someone who knows bird songs better than I do would have had many more
species, I'm sure.

Yesterday I witnessed two fledgling bald eagles having a "sibling scuffle" on a
nest in Meigs County.

Occasional visitors from distant states are still signing a visitor list at the
Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge viewing area in Meigs County. I would attribute this
largely to the publicity HWR received when the hooded crane was there during
the past winter.
