How ironic after my post this week about the disappearance of our Carolina Wrens that while we were on the deck this morning we suddenly heard that beautiful sound of one and in a moment he popped into view. There was only one so we assume it might be a migrant rather than one of the family that had been here before. But whichever it is, we were so excited to hear that song again. It was a good birding morning in our yard. We had flyover Double-crested Cormorants, a Green Heron, two Canada Geese, six Black Vultures and two male Baltimore Orioles. In the yard were three male Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and one female, two male and one female Indigo Buntings, several male and one female Orchard Orioles, one female Baltimore Oriole, gorgeous male and female Yellow Warblers that ate for nearly an hour, one Chipping Sparrow, a Yellow-breasted Chat, one Red-eyed Vireo and another vireo that probably was a Warbling but we had such a brief look we hesitate to call it; both of us thought the size was right for a Philadelphia. And the White-throated Sparrows continue along with the Pine Siskins as do all the regular yard birds. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds seem to have stabilized at about 20-25 as we suppose that is about all the three feeders can sustain.
