Radnor Lake
Davidson Co.
It's interesting what different birds you can see at different times of day
at the same place. Frank Fekel birded Radnor early this morning and Dave
Hawkins and I birded there from 8:30-11:30 and came away with a different set
of birds. Dave is an accommplished professional photographer and was taking
photos of the birds we saw, so we were going at a snail's pace. That paid off
several times when birds came into view that weren't there when we stopped.
Lesson learned; slow down. We didn't see Frank's Hooded Warbler, but we
did have our first of season Worm-eating Warbler, Black-and-White, and
White-eyed Vireos (3), all feasting on something low to the ground in the same
area.
There were also 4 Louisiana Waterthrushes, 1 Black-throated Green, many
Yellow-rumps and very confiding Ruby-crowned Kinglets and a Hairy Woodpecker.
One male Wood Duck was doing a head bobbing display for the female nearby.
