Cool sight from the backyard this morning (Tues, 10 May, Knox Co).
Spotted an angry Red-bellied Woodpecker jabbing it's bill into a cavity on
a branch of a large Chestnut Oak as if fighting something.  Soon an
equally angry Flying Squirrel popped out of the cavity.  After a minute or
so of stabbing and biting, the woodpecker flew off, and the flying
squirrel went back into the cavity.

Also in the yard this morning was a male Scarlet Tanager with yellow-orange
body color instead of scarlet red.  It would only sang 1 to 3 phrases in a
row.  Possibly a young bird.
