Hiwassee Refuge Meigs Co.,Tn. The 2002 migration of Whooping Cranes have landed in Fentress county this morning (Thursday). Weather permitting they should fly Friday morning to Cumberland co. and then into Hiwassee Refuge on Saturday morning 11-16. We plan to be there around 8am eastern. Last year we got to see the birds and ultra lights for about 30 or 40 seconds before they flew out of sight and off limits to us. Sounds like Robbie got the best looks ever and for the longest period of time!!!! Please consider these time tables are totally contingent on the weather. A day of high winds or rain would delay the arrivals by that number of days bad weather. We expect the cranes to depart Hiwassee the next morning reguardless of the actual day of arrival. But, you would need to be there at least two hours earlier to see their departure.
