Clyde Blum and I made a run to Memphis yesterday to look for the White-winged
Doves found recently by Jeff Wilson. We spent about 4 hours along Channel
Avenue and never got great looks at a White-winged Dove. We did get to watch
about 1000 Eurasian Collared-Doves. Around midday, we did have a flock of
doves fly into view and one of the birds showed the distinct bold white wing
patches. We watched that area for a few more hours and got another quick
glance at a flying bird. The doves were feeding below some old fire engines,
behind a lumber company. Every time the birds would fly, they would land
between the engines and the wood piles and disappear. Jeff arrived before we
had to leave and tried to help us get a better look. He also got to watch a
quick flyby, but no perched birds in open view. Better views are definitely
desired, but at least the drive was not a complete failure. Jeff, thanks for
the tips and help.
