A white-tailed kite was seen on Fort Campbell Military Reservation today (4/7) on the Montgomery county, TN side between 2:50 and 3:35pm. I went back to the area with a camera from 6:15 to 7:00pm and got a few shots from far away. The bird has a very white crown, forehead, and breast. The tail is white, but not as white as the head and breast. From the crown going down the back it starts out a light gray and becomes darker gray. A black crescent-shaped patch was visible on both wings. While in flight and while hovering I could see the underwing linings were dark or black on the proximal half (closest to the body). The bird appeared to be coming back to the same group of trees after foraging. So if the bird hangs around I'll see if it's possible to get any interested parties into the area.
