Kyker Bottoms WMA South Blount County (directions available at www.tnbirds.org) Thursday, June 15, 2006 seen at 7:45 pm Hi folks, This evening Tracey, Allan and I went out to find the ibis first reported by Mike Nelson and confirmed by the Clendenens. We found it, as the latter suggested, with 4 Great Egrets and several Great Blue Herons. While we were still almost 100 meters away, the birds all flushed and flew west, landing out of sight. We stayed to the levy (dike? berm? big pile of dryish soil?) and walked that way, but the birds again got up in the air long before we got near them. The egrets flew out of sight to the northwest. The ibis flew over to the east and appeared to land in the furthes east wetland of Kyker, nearest the stream. We also heard 2 different Least Bitterns. For dragonflies, there were gazillions of Common Pond Hawks, a few Prince Baskettails, one Black Saddlebags, a few Common Green Darners, and at least one teneral (recently emerged) Eastern Forktail.
