This afternoon (5/29/12) one of our TWRA managers photographed a Whimbrel at
Thorny Cypress WMA in Dyer Co.

Thorny Cypress is a relatively new WMA on Hwy 104 west of Dyersburg. Ernest
Rice WMA is just a little further west on Hwy 104, while White Lake Refuge is
on the north side of Thorny Cypress.

The bird was seen in Pool 7 this morning and Pool 6 about 3pm.

Map and directions to pool 6 and 7:

Hope the directions are good enough for anyone interested in chasing a tough
bird to get in Tennessee.

As an aside, in winter the grassy fields have had short-eared owls and
LeConte's Sparrows, while the ponds are covered in ducks. Definitely a place
to stop by in winter, but just not on hunt days.

Cheers,
Scott Somershoe
