Shelby Co. TN
Mississippi Co. AR
De Soto Co. MS

This weekend, I located Western Kingbirds on 2 nests in TN, 3 nests in AR
and 1 nest in MS. The nests in Shelby Co. were at a power substation in north
Memphis along the Mississippi River, where there is also a pair of
Scissor-tailed FC. I could not see the Western Kingbird nest near the causeway
at
President's Island but both of the Scissor-tailed FC were at their nest site
on the
island. On Saturday, I found 3 nests, and I'm sure there are a few more, in
the industrial complex east of Blytheville, AR.

A couple of weeks ago, I found a Western Kingbird at the same location I
located Mississippi's first nest, two years ago. I returned today and spent
some
time looking through the hundreds of possible nest locations at that
sub-station and in the process found 2 Starling's nests and 2 Morning Dove
nests.
Finally, I saw a wisp of grass in one of the switch gears and moved around
until I could see a female Western Kingbird perched down in her nest with just
her head and tail sticking up. With the telescope, I was able to get a shot of
her comfortable but a little hazardous nest. If the switch throws, the nest
and her will be toast and fried eggs. These birds like this particular piece
of gear for their nests, as 3 of the 6 nest seen this weekend were on such
switches. Three for three in three states for Western Kingbird Nests;o)
Good Birding !!!
