This morning at 0850 I saw one (probably 2) Western Kingbirds on the hillside at the north end of the 1060 Commerce Park parking lot. When I first stepped out of my car I saw a flycatcher type bird flying away that didn't look right for phoebe and seemed to be yellowish underneath. While pondering whether I had seen what I thought I saw, I heard a second bird and found it perched at the top of a small tree only 30 m away. It was clearly a kingbird, but the calls weren't right for Eastern. After a few minutes it flew almost directly over me, and I could very clearly see a dark tail with white outer edges and overall yellow coloration of the belly. The bird flew west toward the next building and in the general direction of the pond. I and a co-worker spent about 30 minutes searching around the pond, adjacent buildings, and original location, but we were unable to relocate either bird. This office park has a lot of overgrown field habitat. (also office buildings with lots of windows, so search area was somewhat restricted) Commerce Park is an office complex off of Oak Ridge Hwy directly west of the UT Arboretum. Coming from the south the entrance is the first left after you cross the Clinch River on the Solway bridge. 1060 is first building on the right after you enter the complex. =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
