I'm going to have to retract my report of a Bewick's Wren in my yard. Many thanks for several helpful emails, especially Mike Roedel's. When i began to get the picture that it would be pretty rare for a Bewick's to be hanging out and visiting my feeders, i researched them on the internet. The most informative site was Kevin McGowan's; he's an ornithologist with Cornell's Lab of O: http://birds.cornell.edu/crows/Wrentails.htm One thing that made me wonder about this bird NOT being a Bewick's was that its tail is not long. The more photos i saw of them at various websites, the more i saw that the longer tail really does stand out. I also listened to my bird songs CD and to a couple internet examples, and i definitely have not heard that song in the neighborhood. I've concluded that i have a dull/grayish Carolina. And i've learned that the differentiation between the two is definitely more than just a matter of coloration! Thanks again to the whole TN birding community!
