Duck River Unit, TNWR Humphreys County TN.
This afternoon Alan Troyer and I spent 3 hours counting waterfowl at
their staging area on Kentucky Lake, out from the Pump Station (by kayak)
and for the first time got a reasonably accurate count of what's actually
there. Here are some of the numbers;
13 sp. waterfowl;
Gadwall 2500
A. Wigeon 2000
Black Duck 3
Mallard 1800
Blue-winged Teal 125
N. Shoveler 1200
N. Pintail 8000
Green-winged Teal 3500
Canvasback 6
Redhead 12
Ring-necked Duck 500
Lesser Scaup 2
Ruddy Duck 235

WHITE-FACED IBIS 3
AM. Coot 8000
Dunlin 3
Peregrine Falcon 1 (Young bird strafing the mudflats like a fighter
plane, out-maneuvered by waterfowl every way it turned.
The ducks actually had more respect for an adult Bald Eagle!)
Good birding! Ruben Stoll, Centerville TN.
