Shelby Bottoms, Phase III and Walter S. Davis Blvd. Marsh Davidson Co. Nashville, TN 2011 Nov. 2 clear I went to Phase III of Shelby Bottoms this morning looking for sparrows. The best I could do was my first FOX SPARROW of the fall season. However, I made my usual quick stop at Walter S. Davis Blvd. Marsh, which on the back side of the TSU campus, and found a bird of greater interest. After I scanned the area for ducks, I searched the reeds and discovered an AMERICAN BITTERN, perhaps the same one that I spied here last November. As seen from just off the road next to the small paved pull-off before the metal guard rail, it was in front of reeds with a small white sign and some orange and yellow earth moving equipment in the background. I watched as it caught several fish and a frog for breakfast.
