September 13, 2008 [posted September 14, 2008] Greene County, including-- Lick Creek Bottoms Wildlife Management Area unit at intersection of Highway 348, North Mohawk Road, and South Mohawk Road (LCBWMA-348/MR); Wal-Mart Distribution Center (WMDC); Joachime Bible Refuge unit of Lick Creek Bottoms Wildlife Management Area (JBR); Kinser Park (KP). Participating in Greeneville TOS's fall count on Saturday the 13th, I found 77 species, plus an unidentified Empidonax flycatcher. Highlights were Great Egret (12, an unusual total for Greene County) Black-crowned Night-Heron (3, KP) Virginia Rail (WMDC, third pond, western end) Solitary Sandpiper (4) Spotted Sandpiper (2) Least Sandpiper (3) Eurasian Collared-Dove (adjacent to West Greene High School) Barn Owl (2, JBR) Red-headed Woodpecker (6) Empidonax species Yellow-throated Vireo (KP) Swainson's Thrush (18, LCBWMA-348/MR, calling nocturnally; low number--migration of northern birds is not yet well underway) Northern Parula (KP) Blackburnian Warbler (WMDC) Summer Tanager Bobolink (WMDC) Don Miller Greeneville, Greene Co., TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
