April 2, 2010 Shelby Farms Shelby Co. TN It's That Time.................... I had to pick up some stone Friday and of course instead of just driving straight through to the stone yard in Shelby Farms, I meandered. I found 2 Uplands in one location along the road to the Senior Gardens and a single along the east/west farm road. As last year, they have DRAINED the waterfowl flooded field on the east side of Shelby Farms just when the shorebirds had started coming through in numbers. So much for eco-planning. With this weather front passing tonight and the good weather predicted this week, there should be numbers of Uplands to be found in the locations around the Ag-fields and the old dump site in Shelby Farms plus the Ensley Bottom fields, also along the levees in MS, and in their regular haunts in DeSoto, Tunica Co's MS and Crittenden Co. AR. Golden-Plovers are still passing through but last Sunday and the weekend before, huge numbers were seen in DeSoto Co. MS and along Bobwhite Road in Crittenden Co. AR, at their traditional stopping places. May their wonderful wolf whistle call greet you; Seek and Ye Shall Find...................... Good Birding !!! Jeff R.
