A few of the guys I work with are closet birdwatchers. Last year one of them told me about a Bank Swallow colony on the Clinch River in Anderson County. Today, another just told me about a sandpiper he saw on his lunchtime jog around the business park we work in last Friday. He pulled a copy of Peterson out of his desk and said it looked like an Upland Sandpiper. I quized him on a few details and they pan out. The field where he saw it would be good habitat for them. I'm going to run by there after work tonight, though I expect it would have left with the weather. This is in West Knoxville, in the Pellissippi Corporate Center off of Hardin Valley Road (on the opposite side of Pellissippi Parkway from Pellissippi State). From Pellissippi Parkway, take the Hardin Valley exit and head east (toward Knoxville). Take the second left onto Cherahala Blvd and follow it up and around to the right. There are large fields on either side of the road.
