The effect of one bird eating the berries would be overall the same as
another. If grouse eat them and they survive, then turkeys would be the
same effect. The loss of grouse most likely has more to do with being
at the Southern most part of Ruffed Grouse range and the lack of
suitable brood habitat in our East Tenn. Forests. There is a study
going on currently to look at these factors.

Subject: [TN-Bird] Turkeys and Ginseng Berries

Tess,

I don't know. I would think that if turkeys do forage on ginseng
berries, would they not ultimately spread the ginseng seeds. Other birds
that eat berries seem to help spread the berry seeds.

Until someone comes up with some proof, I would still be inclined to
blame over-harvesting by humans for ginseng rarity.

Probably there are some botanists or biologists who can shed some light
on the relationship (if any) between Wild Turkeys and ginseng.
