Michael, David et al.

Surprisingly, this is the first record of Tricolored Heron for
Upper Douglas Lake / Rankin Bottoms area.

Congrats guys.
That makes 2 new species this year, Hudsonian Godwit was the other.

Next on the missing list for that site: Whimbrel.

Rankin Bottoms/Ten Islands, Cocke county, 9/21/11, 6-8PM, by canoe
Douglas Lake elev: 978 ft.

David Kirschke & I put in near Leadvale, then traveled west past the RR trestle
& scoped clusters of bird at the north end of Ten Islands. David picked out a
Tricolored Heron in a line of Great Egrets - the light belly was evident, even
at a distance in fading light. Trip spectacle: more than 200 egrets gathering
in the shallows as we turned back.

Also:
Semipalmated plover (12)
Greater yellowlegs (15)
Lesser yellowlegs (8)
Semipalm. sandpiper (12)
Least sandpiper (5)
Pectoral sandpiper (15)
Stilt sandpiper (4)
Screech owl, in the road as I was leaving.
