August 5, 2012 Good numbers of shorebirds at the refuge this afternoon, I
found 12 different species.Hundreds of peeps looked like mostly Least and
Semipalmated. Also Stilt Sandpiper,35, Semipalmated Plover,9, Lesser
Yellowlegs, 7, Dowitcher,1,Willet,1, American Avocet,1,Caspian Tern,105,
White Pelican,6, and more than 300 Herons and Egrets in 6 different
species. The Tricolored Herons haven`t left yet, Why should they? They have
everything a Heron could ever wish for. If anybody wants to see them they
need to take a good spotting scope and glass pool 1 from the pumphouse area.
